Συνεχίζει η διάθεση της νεότερης έκδοσης MIUI 9.2 από την Xiaomi και για παλαιότερα μοντέλα της, με την εταιρία να βρίσκεται εντός προγράμματος. Πριν λίγες ημέρες το update έγινε διαθέσιμο για το Redmi Note 3 (απευθείας σε MIUI 9.2 μάλιστα), ενώ σήμερα ξεκίνησε η διάθεση της αναβάθμισης και για δύο πιο παλιά μοντέλα, όπως τα Redmi 3S και Redmi 3S Prime. 
Το νεότερο update έχει κωδική ονομασία MIUI 9.2.2.0.MALMIEK και μέγεθος 376MB, ενώ βασίζεται κλασσικά στο Android 6 Marshmallow (όπως το αντίστοιχο για το Redmi Note 3). Συμπεριλαμβάνει τα security updates της Google μέχρι και τον Απρίλιο του 2017, καθώς και επιλύσεις για την ευπάθεια KRACK WPA2. Πρόκειται για Nightly Build φυσικά, αλλά όπως συμβαίνει σε αυτές τις περιπτώσεις, η εταιρία την διαθέτει σε κάποιες συσκευές για 2-3 ημέρες πριν διαθέσει πλήρως (σε πλήρη κλίμακα) την κανονική έκδοση. 
Η αναβάθμιση φέρνει αρκετές βελτιώσεις στο UI, όπως νέα Gallery App, App Vault, Mi Video, νέα εφαρμογή Mi Explorer, Mi Drop κ.α. Δυστυχώς οι κάτοχοι των δύο μοντέλων δεν μπορούν να απολαύσουν βελτιώσεις που έχουν άλλες -νεότερες- συσκευές, όπως Split Screen, Quick Switch, νέο Notification Shade εξαιτίας του λειτουργικού (Marshmallow).
